Privacy Policy

The short version: we do not collect your salary, we do not ask for your email, and we have no user accounts. Our advertising partner does use cookies, and this page explains exactly how.

1. Data you enter into the calculator

Your salary never leaves your device. The calculator is written entirely in JavaScript that runs inside your browser. Your income, filing status, state, pay frequency and pre-tax deductions are processed locally and are never transmitted to us, never written to a server, never logged and never stored. Close the tab and the figures are gone. You can verify this yourself by opening your browser's developer tools and watching the Network tab while you use the calculator: no request is made.

2. What we collect

We do not operate user accounts, mailing lists, contact databases or first-party analytics. We do not ask you for your name, email address, phone number, postal address or payment details anywhere on this site.

Like virtually every website, our hosting provider automatically records standard server request logs, which may include your IP address, browser user-agent, requested URL, referring page and timestamp. These logs are generated by the hosting infrastructure for security and reliability purposes, are not linked to any identity by us, and are not used for profiling.

If you email us via the address on our contact page, we obviously receive whatever you choose to put in that email. We use it only to answer you, and we do not add you to any list.

3. Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is free and is funded by display advertising. We use Google AdSense, a service operated by Google LLC and, for users in the European Economic Area, Google Ireland Limited.

You can review Google's own explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

If you are in a region that requires it, you will be shown a consent notice before any non-essential advertising cookie is set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.

We set no first-party cookies of our own. The calculator itself requires no cookies and no local storage to function.

5. How to opt out

You have several independent ways to limit or stop personalised advertising:

Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove advertising; it means the ads you see are less relevant to you.

6. Your rights

European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, our lawful basis for the limited server-log processing described above is legitimate interest in operating a secure website. The lawful basis for advertising cookies is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in exchange for money. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. Because we hold no personal information about you beyond transient server logs, there is generally nothing for us to disclose or delete, but you may still submit a request through our contact page and we will respond within the statutory period.

Other US states

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have broadly equivalent rights and may use the same contact route.

7. Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the law or in the services we use. The date at the top of this page always shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage.

9. Contact

All privacy enquiries, including access, correction, deletion and opt-out requests, are handled through our contact page. We aim to respond within three business days, and always within any statutory deadline that applies to your request.
